Crypto Locker Virus

Watch out for a new virus going around called the Crypto Locker.

Not only does it infect your computer but it also encrypts your data and holds it for “ransom”. Typically users are given twenty four hours to pay up to several hundred dollars or their data is forever encrypted beyond the point of recovery. There is no way to get it back at that point unless you have a backup.

The Crypto Locker usually comes in the form of an email – often claiming to be from FedEx or UPS that you have a package. When you launch the attachment the virus takes hold. The attachment doesn’t always get flagged as being a virus by your anti-virus software, either, making it more dangerous.
